FSPA

There was a meeting of Florida's Scholastic Press Association in Tampa this weekend. It was pretty lame, though.

The opening speaker was a guy named Bobby Hawthorne: hawthorne.jpg (minus the goatee, just a mustache). When he walked in, he appeared to be very scholarly and conservative. Instead, he was a smartass. That had to be my favorite FSPA-related activity, and thats the extent of it.

There were several blocks of workshops to attend, but the vast majority of them weren't very good. I went to one on Thursday evening by a wake-boarding photographer. His work was really very cool and had some neat aspects, but beyond that - I didn't learn very much.

On Friday I went to a workshop on more photographer, where I did learn quite a bit regarding lighting/etc, but the second one I went to was terrible and didn't teach anything.

A lot of the time I spent outside in a great park, or inside a really cool book store (Old Tampa Book Company) perusing books on physics, math, and other sciences. Also, instead of attending a "dance," I instead sat with several friends and discussed the universe, 10 dimensions, religion, etc.

For the rest of the time, I walked around and photographed various things. (ie: the purpose of this post.)

This chick was taking pictures of Christine and I for a contest. This picture isn't really great, other than the neat (IMO) effect of the blurry motion, but her being sharp.

This guy was working on his Rubik's cube, finally finished, and celebrated it by throwing it up and down in the air for a few moments.

I liked this photo due to the shadows, and what he was doing. His action of setting up a camera was very in-line with the purpose of the conference, and I thought it was fitting.

This last photo is one of my favorites.. ever. I love the reflections on the counter, and the shadows from the chairs. Over all, I think its a fantastic photo.
